Sign Up Your School For TAR WARS!
Steps for Scheduling Tar Wars Presentations:
- The deadline to sign up for a Tar Wars presentation is September 30, 2007. Any requests made after September 30th will require a 35-day notice prior to the requested presentation date.
- Presentations can be scheduled between October 1, 2007, and February 22, 2008. Presentations last about 1 hour and are given to each classroom individually. "Assembly-style" settings are not preferred.
- Your Tar Wars coordinator will confirm your presentation date & time, provide you with your presenter’s name, as well as a “Teacher Packet” with all the information you will need to help implement a successful program.
Schools are responsible for the following activities
(materials and instructions are included in the Teacher Packet):
- Conduct the Pre-Activity Exercise within 1 week prior to the classroom presentation and make a copy/transparency of the pre-activity work sheet for the presenter.
- Send the Parent Handout home with each student on the day of the presentation.
- Complete the Teacher/School evaluation form and return to the state coordinator.
- Encourage students to participate in the poster contest. If possible, have students create their posters as part of their art or health class.
- Hold a poster contest at your school to identify the top entries. There are no guidelines for how the poster contest is run; however, schools may only submit the number of posters equal to the number of classrooms participating in Tar Wars during that school year. For example, if two presentations are done at the school but three classrooms are present, than three posters may be submitted to the state poster contest.
- Schools may decide to have a separate poster contest in each classroom or combine all classrooms together. You may want to form a judging committee with teachers, principals, and AODA coordinators.
- Send the winning poster(s) to your Tar Wars coordinator at Marshfield Clinic-Eau Claire Center, 2116 Craig Rd, Eau Claire, WI 54701. Both the official Poster Contest Entry Form and Authorized Release Form must be attached to the back of the poster with tape.
