Frequently Asked Questions

Who Can Present Chippewa Valley Tar Wars?

Family physicians, family practice residents and medical students, school nurses and nurse practitioners, physician assistants, other health care providers, dental hygienists, health education professionals, community leaders, and even parents can present Tar Wars. The only requirements are that you live or work in Barron, Buffalo, Chippewa, Dunn, Eau Claire, Pepin, Sawyer or Trempealeau county. You don’t need special training or a specific background to get involved. Your volunteer efforts and enthusiasm are key elements in the success of the program!

How Much of My Time Will It Take?

You can present Tar Wars to a fourth-grade classroom in about 1 hour. In preparation for your presentation, you should plan on 20 - 30 minutes to read through the Tar Wars Lesson Plan and familiarize yourself with the classroom activities. We also ask that new volunteers attend one of our short training sessions offered in the fall. We understand that many of our presenters have busy schedules and we will do our best to accomodate your needs.

How Do I Get Started?

Sign up online today or call the Chippewa Valley Tar Wars Program Coordinator at (715) 858-4465 and let them know you are interested in being a presenter. Next, you’ll want to read through the lesson plan and familiarize yourself with the program activities.

What Will I Need to Bring to the Presentation?

The Chippewa Valley Tar Wars Program Coordinator will provide you with a bag of materials with everything you will need for the presentation. Then simply return the bag after your presentation.

Is There Any Follow-Up Required?

We want to hear from you! What went well? What didn’t go so well? And are your needs being met? Please, take a few minutes to provide us with some valuable feedback about the Tar Wars program, lesson plan, and your classroom presentation. After your presentation, the program coordinator will provide you with a presenter evaluation form to fill out and return to the state coordinator.
